Building and Approved Inspector (Amendment) Regulations 2007 (S.I. 2007/3384)

I am writing to inform you about the Building and Approved Inspectors (Amendment) Regulations 2007 (SI 2007/3384). The regulations were made on 28 November and laid in Parliament today, 5 December.

Part of the regulations (amendments to Schedule 2A of the Building Regulations

2000) comes into force on 2 January 2008; the remainder on 6 April 2008.

DCLG Circular 05/2007

The purpose of the above Circular, which is also published today on the DCLG website www.comunities.gov.uk, is to explain the amendments made by the regulations and the transitional provisions which will apply to the changes.

Approved Documents

The changes made by the regulations will require the following Approved Documents to be amended: Approved Documents L1A, L1B, L2A, L2B, G, H and J.

Revised Approved Documents L1A, L1B, L2A, L2B will shortly be placed in draft on the DCLG website www.communities.gov.uk. These Approved Documents will also be notified to the European Commission. Subject to the outcome of consultation and successful notification to the European Commission, it is intended that they will come into effect on 6 April 2008.

Amendment slips to Approved Documents G, H and J will be issued before 6 April 2008.

Building Regulations Explanatory Booklet

A revised edition will be published before 6 April 2008, coming into effect on that date.
