Notice of Approval of the methodologies of calculation of the energy performance of new buildings to demonstrate compliance with the Building Regulations 2010 in England
I am writing to inform you that we have issued a new notice of approval for the calculation methodologies for CO2 emissions, fabric energy efficiency and primary energy for new buildings in England.

Scope of this Circular Letter
The guidance in this circular letter applies to bodies in England carrying out building control functions.
Regulations 25, 26, 26A, 26C, 27, 27A and 27C of the Building Regulations 2010 require that the calculation of the energy performance of new buildings shall be carried out using a methodology approved by the Secretary of State under regulation 24 of those Regulations.
To coincide with the coming into effect of amendments to the energy efficiency requirements of the Building Regulations on 15 June 2022 (S.I. 2022/1391) a notice of approval for updated approved methodologies has been issued. The notice of approval is available on the GOV.UK website at:
The approved methodologies should be used from 15 June 2022. The notice sets out which buildings the updated methodologies will apply to and when previous versions of the methodologies may continue to be used.
