BUILDING ACT 1984

BUILDING (APPROVED INSPECTORS ETC.) REGULATIONS 2010

INTRODUCTION

1.I am writing to inform you that the Welsh Ministers have approved “CICAIR Limited” as the body designated to carry out the Welsh Ministers functions in respect of approving Approved Inspectors. The approval takes effect on 31 March 2014.

NEW DESIGNATION NOTICE

2.In 2012 a review of the Construction Industry Council Approved Inspectors Register (CICAIR) was undertaken and recommended that a separate subsidiary company should be established to carry out the functions as the approved inspector designated body. The change in legal entity required a new designation notice. The new “Designation Notice” sets out the formal functions and responsibilities of the designated body. The continuing operation of the approved inspectors register is unaffected by this change and all actions carried out by the CIC as the previously designated body remain valid.

3.The designation is made under powers contained in section 49 of the Building Act 1984 and regulations 3 and 5 of the Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2010. These powers are exercisable by the Welsh Ministers by virtue of the Welsh Ministers (Transfer of Functions) (No.2) Order 2009.

4.Contact details for CICAIR Limited:
