Deltek Vantagepoint Alternatives for UK Practices
What Vantagepoint does well, why smaller UK practices often choose something lighter, and how the alternatives compare.
Deltek Vision’s support and cloud lifecycle differ by version and hosting arrangement, leading some practices to review their options. It is a capable project ERP, but it is not the only route. This guide sets out who Vantagepoint suits, what it costs to adopt and the alternatives UK practices most often shortlist.
Vantagepoint is built for firms with finance teams and complex accounting. Many smaller practices need less configuration and a faster start.
What Deltek Vantagepoint is
Deltek Vantagepoint is project-based ERP for architecture, engineering and consulting firms. It combines project management, accounting, billing, CRM and resource management in one system, and it is Deltek's named successor to Deltek Vision.
Deltek's UK site describes Vantagepoint modules for project management, accounting and financial management, CRM and pipeline management, resource management and payments, with an AI assistant called Dela built in. Deltek says more than 80% of Vantagepoint companies use the Deltek Cloud, and firms can also implement only the front office modules alongside an existing finance system.
Deltek’s published lifecycle distinguishes Vision 7.6, which entered sustaining support on 1 February 2026, from Deltek Cloud Vision instances scheduled to wind down in Q1 2027. Confirm the applicable lifecycle for your deployment with Deltek. Deltek directs Vision customers to Vantagepoint, which is why many practices are being asked to decide now. Our guide to Deltek Vision support lifecycle explains the published support distinctions and questions to confirm with Deltek.
Who Vantagepoint suits, and why others look elsewhere
Vantagepoint is strongest for larger firms with several offices or legal entities, a dedicated finance team and complex project accounting. Smaller UK practices often find the cost, implementation effort and configuration out of proportion to what they need.
Vantagepoint is designed for architecture, engineering and consulting firms with project accounting needs. For practices in that range with full project accounting needs, it is a serious option and the natural continuation for long-standing Deltek users.
Why UK small and mid-sized practices look elsewhere
- Cost: pricing is quoted individually, and implementation is a separate, often significant, cost on top of licences.
- Implementation: ERP Research gives a typical go-live of three to six months, and notes that partners often report a year or more for Vision customers migrating.
- Configuration: reports, workflows and stage structures are powerful but often need a partner or specialist to set up and change.
- Scope: many practices use only time, fees, resourcing and invoicing, and already run accounts happily in Xero or QuickBooks.
What Vantagepoint costs to adopt
Deltek does not publish Vantagepoint pricing. Independent estimates exist, but the larger cost for most practices is implementation and the internal time spent on migration.
Deltek does not publish a standard price. Ask for a written quote that lists the modules, user count, implementation scope and ongoing support included for your practice.
- Licences
- Per user and per module. Ask which modules your quote assumes and what adding people or modules costs later.
- Implementation
- Configuration, data migration, report building and training, usually through a Deltek partner. Ask for a fixed scope and who carries overruns.
- Internal time
- Finance and project leads cleaning data, testing and signing off during live projects.
- Running cost
- Who changes a report or a stage structure next year, and whether that is a paid service.
Compare every option on total cost over three years, not on headline licence price.
The alternatives UK practices shortlist
Most alternatives are practice management tools that cover time, fees, resourcing and billing and leave the general ledger in Xero or QuickBooks. The notes below reflect what each vendor or a named listing publishes as of October 2026. Confirm current features and pricing with each vendor.
- 01
Project ERP
Deltek Vantagepoint.
- Suits
- Larger firms with finance teams and complex project accounting
- Watch
- Implementation cost and configuration effort
- 02
Practice management tools
Total Synergy, Monograph, Fresh Projects, BQE Core, Projectworks.
- Suits
- Small and mid-sized practices using Xero or QuickBooks for accounts
- Watch
- RIBA stage set-up, VAT, UK hosting and what syncs
- 03
Connected platform
Avoice.
- Suits
- Practices that want delivery records in the same system as fees
- Watch
- Line-by-line check against the finance features you use
Each route needs data cleaned and migrated. The difference is how much the practice has to configure and run afterwards.
- Total Synergy
- Business and project management software for architecture and engineering firms, covering project management, resource planning, time tracking, budgets, forecasting and invoicing. Its Xero UK app listing says it syncs invoices and contacts with Xero, and timesheets and leave with Xero Payroll. See Total Synergy alternatives.
- Monograph
- US-built practice management for architecture and engineering firms, with time tracking, project accounting, forecasting, reports and staffing. Its pricing page shows a monthly price calculated by firm size, with pipeline sold as a separate add-on. Monograph publishes guidance on exporting invoices to Xero. See Monograph alternatives.
- Fresh Projects
- UK-based practice and project management for architecture and engineering firms, with timesheets, budgets, resource management, billing and reporting. Its Capterra UK listing shows pricing from £35 per user per month excluding VAT, with a discount for annual payment, and an integration with Xero.
- BQE Core
- Accounting and firm management software for architecture and engineering firms from BQE Software, based in Torrance, California. It covers time and expenses, billing, project management, resource planning, CRM and its own accounting, and lists integrations with Xero and QuickBooks Online. UK practices should check UK payroll, VAT and hosting.
- Projectworks
- Professional services software for consulting, architecture and engineering firms, with offices in San Mateo, Wellington and London. It covers resourcing, time and expenses, invoicing, forecasting and reporting, and integrates with Xero, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct and MYOB.
- Avoice
- A connected platform for architecture practices, UK hosted. Fees by stage, timesheets, financials and cash flow, CRM and people and staffing sit alongside specification writing, drawing QA, contract administration and compliance registers, with Xero and QuickBooks sync.
How to choose between them
Start from what the practice actually uses today, not from the feature lists. A short, structured comparison with one live project usually settles the decision within a few weeks.
- 1
Audit
List the modules, reports and invoices the practice uses today.
- 2
Route
Decide whether you need full ERP or can keep Xero or QuickBooks.
- 3
Shortlist
Three vendors at most. Same demo script for each.
- 4
Prove
Load one live project and log a real week of time.
- 5
Decide
Compare three-year cost and migration plans. Sign.
Deciding whether the practice needs an ERP or a practice tool first keeps the shortlist short and the demos comparable.
Questions to ask every vendor
- Accounts: Do we keep our general ledger in Xero or QuickBooks, or does this system replace it?
- Stages: Can a project carry RIBA stages, a fee per stage and billing in instalments?
- UK fit: Are VAT, pounds and UK hosting standard, and is a UK GDPR data processing agreement included?
- Migration: Who moves our live projects, rates, WIP and timesheet history out of Vision, and how long does it take?
- Change: Can our own team edit reports and stage structures, or does it need a consultant?
- Cost: What is the total over three years, including implementation and training?
A forced move off Vision costs about the same whichever system you choose, because the data has to be cleaned and migrated either way. That makes it the cheapest moment to choose the system that fits the practice you are now.
For the mechanics of moving, see how to switch practice management software.
Questions practices ask
Short answers for practices weighing Vantagepoint against the alternatives.
What is the best alternative to Deltek Vantagepoint for a UK architecture practice?
It depends on size and needs. Small and mid-sized practices that keep accounts in Xero or QuickBooks often choose a practice management tool such as Total Synergy, Monograph, Fresh Projects, BQE Core or Projectworks, or a connected platform such as Avoice. Larger firms with complex project accounting may still be best served by an ERP.
How much does Deltek Vantagepoint cost?
Deltek does not publish pricing. Deltek does not publish a standard price. Request a written quote that specifies the modules, user count, implementation scope and ongoing support for your practice.
Do Vision users have to move to Vantagepoint?
No. Vantagepoint is Deltek's recommended path, but moving to it still involves data migration, configuration and retraining. Practices can choose any system that meets their needs; confirm the support and hosting timeline for their own Vision deployment directly with Deltek.
How long does a Vantagepoint implementation take?
Implementation time depends on data quality, integrations and scope. Ask Deltek or its implementation partner for a project plan based on your own migration. Practice management tools for smaller firms are usually quicker because there is less to configure.
Can we keep Xero if we leave Deltek?
Yes. Most practice management alternatives, including Total Synergy, BQE Core, Projectworks, Fresh Projects and Avoice, integrate with Xero, so the practice can keep Xero as its ledger and run projects, fees and timesheets in the practice system.
Where Avoice fits
Avoice suits UK practices that want to leave Vision without taking on an ERP implementation, and that would rather run projects, fees and delivery in one system.
Each Avoice project carries its RIBA stages, a fee per stage and an invoicing schedule. Timesheets roll up against each stage and become invoices in one click, financials and cash flow show fees invoiced, WIP, margin and a cash forecast synced with Xero or QuickBooks, and people and staffing shows capacity and utilisation. The same project holds the specification, drawing QA, contract administration and compliance registers. Data is hosted in the UK.
To review Avoice with one of your own projects, book a demo. Before committing, agree the migration scope, responsibilities, timescale and any costs with Avoice.
